Indonesia needs no introduction to most adventure travellers, but Dash Adventure Club isn’t gonna have you at Kuta Beach drinking Bintangs at some nameless chain hotel for the week. Instead, we might drop you on a deserted island for a night with tents and food, then leave it to you to negotiate with the local fisherman to deliver the sunset supplies! So… just how good is your Indonesian?!
The Indonesia race kicked off in true Dash style - a breathtaking landscape of rice paddies, the sun setting on an epic outdoor obstacle race, and four teams toughing it through the mud, cheering, tug’o’waring and battling for early team points. Believe me, there is no better way to bond with your new friends and team mates than some piggybacking, dragging, pushing, cheering and then high-fiving as everyone gets to the finish!
As the race wound its way across the country, teams battled for points in axe throwing, Zorb soccer, paintball, graffiti painting (perfectly legal, I promise), kayak racing, jewellery making, competitive cooking (and competitive eating!), multi-island scavenger hunts and a host of other ‘heck yes’ adventures. Oh and we also squeezed in climbing a volcano. You know, just because.
Wish you’d come? So do we! Join us next time.
Quick confession. Before we raced there, the only things we knew about the Philippines was that scuba divers were crazy for the place. Turns out the divers were right… the Philippines is an amazing country, above & below the water.
Having now been there countless times, we can also tell you that (1) filipinos are just about the friendliest people you’ll ever meet; (2) basketball is a national obsession; and (3) you could spend a week just gawking at the beautiful beach sunsets. But if you’ve got this far into our website, you’re already thinking “a Dash Race wouldn’t have me spending a week looking at sunsets.” And you’d be correct.
The Dash Adventure Club Phillipines Race follows the usual Dash recipe for fun but this last time was a bit more ‘in the water’ than other races. With over 7,000 islands, some astonishing rivers, caves and cliffs divided by freshwater streams, our racers were more ‘in it’ than ‘looking at it.’
Think paddle-board racing down a lush green river, a snorkelling competition (first team to find and photograph a “sardine bowl” wins), swimming with whale sharks, canyoning through bluest of waters that ends in a 15m jump, an inflatable waterpark race… you get the idea. Oh and then our teams were losing at basketball against some incredible kids before teaching at their school, belting out a karaoke tune, and bracing themselves for a competitive eating challenge involving Balut. Google it. But not while you’re having breakfast. The next race? Well, we’re always mixing things up a bit, but hopefully you get the vibe.
This was definitely one for the books- cementing that there is no better way to see the Phillipines than with your new best friends racing & adventuring across the country!
Let’s talk Custom Dash … Our first Thailand Race was a custom ‘pre-wedding’ event. With families and friends attending a Thailand destination wedding from the USA, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, the UK, Germany (and another 6 countries), it just made sense to make the trip worth everyone’s while. And what better way to make a destination wedding something properly awesome (and to turn a roomful of strangers into friends), than a custom Dash Adventure Race? (not actually a question - there is no better way)
Custom events are true to the Dash recipe - physical activity, friendly(ish) competition, adrenalin adventures, and some cultural interaction. Of course with a custom event, you get the benefit of our planning and awesomeness with the flexibility to craft a perfect blend of events for your own Dashers.
Our Thailand custom race took 65 guests, many who didn’t know each other, put them into 8 teams and then pitted them against each other in a range of activities. Things like a dance competition to Beyoncé’s floor filler, ‘Single Ladies’ (which would later become the first dance) a scavenger hunt through Bangkok, a poker tournament, an escape room race and an inflatable water obstacle course. With a mix of ages and fitness levels, we ran two streams of optional events, each of which contributed to points for the race. On Day 3, it was ‘Taste or Traverse’ - Compete for your team in rockclimbing, or if that’s not your thing, you’re lining up for a ‘Masterchef’ style competitive cook-off. On Day 4, it was ‘Fight or Flight’ - are you up for a Muay Thai class and then to step in the ring against a professional Thai fighter? If not, you’re in to take on the zipline course, collecting puzzle pieces at each stop to complete once finished- with race points up for grabs.
Custom events are perfect for pre or post wedding events, for end-of-season sports team trips, big family holidays, big birthday events… pretty much anything where you’re getting a group together, you want to see an interesting country without having to plan and organise it yourself, and you want some physical challenges and some adrenalin adventures with lots of laughs, all tied together in a competitive race format.
